Ruffle's text handling not being able to handle JP characters is indicative of a wider problem with its text handling capabilities - it can't render any internationalized fonts at all. This is because Ruffle currently embeds a font and uses that for any and all text IIRC. The problem, of course, being that the font that's embedded has no support for characters not in (IIRC) Latin-1 or some variant of the english alphabet.

Damn. Good to know, I guess. Well, at least it doesn't bonk out on browsers back in the day when it was first introduced. I've already made a relatively simple workaround for it with graphics assets (It's clunky, though...), but I'll be looking forward to the day ruffle can handle JP character display just like how it handled my badly-coded initial game project.
